Upload Field Notes
This information applies to firmware version 2.5 and above.
Cache Register should automatically upload existing field notes to geocaching.com when synchronizing (a prompt to view uploaded field notes will be offered at the end of syncing).
To **manually** upload your field notes to geocaching.com
- Log into your account at geocaching.com.
- Click the link My Profile on the left side of the page.
- Click the link Access My Field Notes on the right side of the page.
- In the section for DeLorme Earthmate PN-40 Receivers, click the link "Click here".
- With the PN-40 off, connect it to your PC.
- Turn the PN-40 on.
- When prompted, scroll to Data Exchange and press Enter.
- Press Menu, scroll to Geocaches and press Enter.
- Press Menu, scroll to Upload Field Notes, press Enter. This causes the unit's internal memory to show up as a removable USB drive.
- Click the Browse button to the right of the filename box.
- Navigate to the root of the removable drive, select FieldNotes.txt and click Open.
- Click Upload.
- Click the link Return to Field Notes which now appears below the filename box.
At this point, you will see a list of the logged caches which you just uploaded. For each cache, there are three links: one for the cache page, one to Post Log and one to Delete Log. To actually log your attempts:
- Click the link Post Log for one of the caches.
- Make any necesasry corrections on the log page, which initially reflects the information uploaded from your unit.
- Click the Submit log entry button.
- On the resulting confirmation page, click the link Submit more field notes.
- Repeat until you have logged all your attempts.
Although it is not necessary, you may wish to delete the FieldNotes.txt file from the unit. This helps avoid duplicate logs the next time you upload. Use Windows Explorer or the equivalent Mac utility to do so.
Finally:
- The PN-40 is waiting on a Done prompt. Press Enter. This dismounts the removable USB drive and returns the unit to data exchange mode.
