Tide Page

This page allows you to display information about ocean tides. The tide information will be based on the selected Tide Station for the selected Time/Date. Some stations depict the tide in feet and other stations depict the water current speed in feet per second.

How do I get to the Tide Page?

If you have the Tide page enabled in Page Order, either press the PAGE button or the QUIT button to scroll through your screens until you get to the Tide page. If the Tide page is disabled in Page Order (default from factory), then press MENU button, use the UP/DOWN rocker pad to select Tide, then press ENTER.

How to use the Tide Page

This page can be broken up into four sections: Time/Date, Station, High/Low, and Height

Time - When the page is first displayed, the Time field is set to the current time. This field is used to update the Height section of the page.

To change the time, use the LEFT/RIGHT rocker pad to select Time, then press ENTER. Now use the UP/DOWN to change the selected digit, and the LEFT/RIGHT to select a different digit. When done, press ENTER.

Date - When the page is first displayed, the Date field is set to the current date. This field is used to update the High/Low section, and the Height section of the page.

To change the date, use the LEFT/RIGHT rocker pad to select Date, then press ENTER. Now use the UP/DOWN to change the selected digit, and the LEFT/RIGHT to select a different digit. When done, press ENTER.

Station - This section of the page is used to select a Tide Station. To select a tide station, use the UP/DOWN rocker pad to select the Tide Station field, then press ENTER. Now use the UP/DOWN to select the desired tide stationt. When done, press ENTER.

High/Low - This section of the page displays the time and height of High Tide (left side) and Low Tide (right side) for the selected Date.

Height - This section of the page shows the tide height graphically. The red circle indicates the currently selected Time/Date. As the time and/or date is changed, the ball will move on the graphic. This section also shows how extreme the tide is going to change for the date selected.

How to Select a Tide Station

When the Tide page is selected, the Tide Station list is fulled with near-by tide stations. So, if you're in the middle of Oklahoma and select the Tide page, the Tide Station list will be blank. One way to have the Tide Station list filled in correctly is as follows:

Go to the Map page, zoom-out, then pan over to the coastal area of interest. In the screenshot below, I panned down to the San Francisco area. Next, press then MENU button, select Tide, and press ENTER. The Tide Station list should now contain the tide stations for the San Francisco area. NOTE: This only works if the Tide page is disabled in Page Order.

Another way that works whether the Tide page is enabled or disabled in Page Order is once you've panned to the coastal area of interest, press the IN button. This will center the map on this location, now when you go to the Tide page, it will fill-in the Tide Station list with stations at the center of the map.

Selecting a Station that depicts water current speed

Coastal Waters near land masses are often impacted by tidal changes with a significant change in the water current speed . Many of the Tide Station entries are actually Current Stations. Although the Tide Station list doesn't always indicate the nature of the station (Tide or Current), the display clearly shows the units as ft/s (feet per second).

Here is an example of selecting 'The Narrows' near Tacoma, Washington from the Tide List and the resulting display showing water current speed throughout the day.

Note the maximum current flow in the morning is 6.4 ft/s. The time of day can be adjusted to 'pinpoint' the time.

Resetting Date to current day

To reset the Time and Date fields to the current time/date, press MENU button, this should have the Reset Time/Date highlighted, now press ENTER.
