Enhancements

These enhancements are frequently mentioned in the forums.

• 03/02/2009. Switching imagery. Need a quick and easy way to switch among all types of imagery available in the current location, at the current zoom level.
• 03/02/2009. More waypoints/caches. Raise the limit from 1000 to at least 2000. Possibly include some means of managing even more ("multiple waypoint files") on the unit itself.
• 03/02/2009. Waypoint projection. Provide a non-graphical means of projecting a waypoint. Need to be able to enter bearing and distance directly. Bearing in degrees and tenths, magnetic or true without regard to current unit setting. Distance in my choice of units without regard to current unit setting, with sufficient digits both left and right of the decimal point. Must be able to project from current position, panned position on the map, or an existing waypoint. Should be able to save the resulting position as a waypoint, or navigate directly without saving.
• 03/02/2009. Direct .gpx loading. Geocaching. Need a way of loading a .gpx file directly, without processing through Topo USA or the Cache Register.
• 03/05/2009. v2.5 firmware contains new icons for geocache types, among other things. Need a .dim file so we can use these icons in Topo 7.
• 04/02/2009. Optionally (under user control) use DEM data to shade topo maps.
• 04/02/2009. Optionally (under user control) place the current position pointer near the bottom of the screen in heading-up mode. Allows us to see more of the terrain in front of us.
• 04/02/2009. Ability to run with the screen off (including track logging) in order to save power.
• 04/09/2009. Support for at least one user-defined coordinate system. Spoke with a cacher who works for a state agency. Uses a "state plane" coordinate system. Returned a PN-40 partly because it does not support user-defined coordinate systems.
