Downloading Imagery

Downloading imagery is the second of four major steps required to use imagery from the Map Library Subscription on the PN-40. In summary, these are the four steps.

  1. Select the types of imagery you want to use for the area you want to cover.
  2. Download the imagery from the DeLorme servers to your PC.
  3. Cut the imagery to put it into the format used by the PN-40.
  4. Download the cut map package from your PC to the PN-40.

Brief Summary of Steps

In the previous step, you selected the types of imagery and the area to be covered. You submitted your order to the NetLink servers. Next, you will wait for the servers to prepare your datasets. Then you will use Topo 7 to download the datasets to your PC. This makes the imagery visible and available in Topo 7. The time required to complete the download depends on the amount of data you requested, and on concurrent requests by other users. Typically, it will take quite a while.

Detailed Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. If necessary, start Topo 7.
  2. Select the NetLink tab.
  3. Click the Downloads button on the left.
  4. Find the line that says "Your Data". Expand the bar by clicking the round down-arrow button on the right. Datasets which are being built (in progress) or which are ready for download will appear in the list. The list is updated periodically as long as there are pending datasets which are not yet ready for download. To check the status immediately, click the Downloads button again.

  1. Wait until at least one of your selections is ready for download.
  2. Click the box next to each of your selections that is ready for download. NOTE: You're not required to check all orders for download at once. You can download as few as one or as many as all of them.
  3. Once you've placed a checkmark next to the datasets you'd like to download, click the Download Selected button.

    • NOTE: To the far right of the Download Selected button, the Total Download Size is displayed. Using this value, you can get a rough estimate of how long it's going to take. In the example about, 616.7MB of data has been selected for download. At 30KB/sec it will take 342.6 minutes (5.7 hrs) to download. At 100KB/sec it will take 102.8 minutes (1.7 hrs), and at 300KB/sec it will take 34.3 minutes.
  1. After a brief delay, the Download Progress window appears. You cannot do anything else in Topo 7 until the selected downloads complete. Wait patiently as this usually takes some time.

  1. When the downloads are complete, the progress window disappears and a completion message appears in the NetLink tab. Click on "Return to Downloads List" if you have more orders that need downloading.

  1. Sometimes an order will fail to download. When this happens, you get the following message:
    • HTR downloadFailed1.jpg
    • Normally, you would click on "Return to Downloads list", and re-download the failed orders.
    • If you wish to cancel a submitted order, see these directions.
